Private hip replacement, the Lincolnshire way
Muscle-sparing SPAIRE surgery in central London with Professor Paul Lee, then the rest of your recovery at home with unlimited physiotherapy in Grantham or Sleaford.
SPAIRE: keep the muscles, shorten the recovery
SPAIRE is a muscle-sparing approach to total hip replacement that goes between the short external rotators of the hip rather than cutting through them. The same quality of joint replacement, but with the hip’s key stabilisers preserved — and the recovery curve to match.
What that means in practice: most patients are standing on the day of surgery, off strong painkillers within a few days, and back to normal walking and driving far sooner than the traditional posterior approach allows.

One price. No surgeon supplement, no consumables bill, no surprise add-ons for anaesthetist time. Here is what it covers.

Your surgery is performed at the 5-star Weymouth Street Hospital in central London — a small, calm, single-specialty environment with private en-suite recovery rooms.
Private luxury car door-to-door
You and a companion are collected from home in a private luxury car and driven door-to-door to the hospital. No trains, no taxis, no parking.

One night in hospital after surgery, with consultant-led review the morning after. You go home as soon as it is safe and you are ready.
Unlimited Lincolnshire physiotherapy
Unlimited post-operative physiotherapy at our Grantham or Sleaford clinics. The recovery happens at home, on familiar ground.
Surgery with Professor Lee
Your operation is performed by Professor Paul Lee personally — not a trainee, not a rota. The same consultant you met at consultation operates on you.
No GP referral required
You can self-refer directly. We handle the paperwork, the scheduling and the communication back to your GP.
A different approach to the same operation
The implant is the same. The hip you walk out with is the same. What changes is what the surgeon does to your soft tissue on the way in — and that is where recovery is won or lost.
Traditional posterior
Cuts through the rotators
The classic UK approach. Reliable for the implant; the trade-off is detaching the short rotators from the back of the hip and reattaching them afterwards. Hip-precaution restrictions are standard for weeks.
Anterior
Comes in from the front
Avoids the posterior muscles entirely. Faster early recovery for many patients, but technically demanding and not the right call for every anatomy. Femoral exposure can be harder.
SPAIRE · Our approach
Goes between, not through
A muscle-sparing posterior approach that goes between the short external rotators rather than detaching them. Best-of-both: the surgical familiarity of posterior, the recovery profile of anterior, no hip precautions.

What recovery feels like, week by week
These are averages, not promises. Every recovery is individual — but the SPAIRE approach gives most patients a curve that looks roughly like this.
Day 1
Standing and stepping
Out of bed, weight-bearing on the new hip with a physio. Most patients take a short walk on the ward.
Week 1
Walking, off strong painkillers
Home, walking with a stick around the house. Off opioids for most patients. First local physio session in Lincolnshire.
Week 4
Stick down, driving back
Walking unaided for most distances. Driving short journeys. Back to office work, light gardening, easy walking.
Month 3
Back to life
Most patients are back to the things they had stopped doing — longer walks, golf, gym, holidays. Continued physio if useful.
Questions patients ask before they book
Is the £17,800 really all-in?
Yes. Surgeon fee, anaesthetist, theatre, implants, overnight stay, private luxury car door-to-door, and unlimited post-op physio in Lincolnshire are all included. The consultation fee (£250) is paid separately and is the only additional cost most patients pay.
Why do surgery in London if everything else is local?
Because Weymouth Street Hospital is a 5-star, small, single-specialty private hospital with the equipment, theatre quality and recovery environment we want for the operation itself. The trade-off — one day of travel for surgery — buys you a much better surgical environment than a regional hospital can offer. And we organise the luxury car so the journey is the easy bit.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can self-refer directly. We handle the paperwork and communication back to your GP, with your permission, so they have a complete record of your care.
How long is recovery before I can drive?
Most patients are driving short distances at 2-3 weeks and back to longer drives by 4-6 weeks. SPAIRE recovery is typically faster than traditional posterior because the rotators have not been detached.
What if I am not suitable on consultation?
If Professor Lee decides hip replacement is not the right answer for you, we will tell you that clearly and propose what is — whether that is Arthrosamid, ChondroFiller, more conservative care, or referring you on. You only pay for what you actually receive.
Can I have finance?
Yes — via our funding partner kandoo. Monthly options designed for medical treatment, with no early-repayment penalty.
