What it is

A cushion, not a cure

Arthrosamid is a permanent, biocompatible hydrogel — about 97.5 percent water, 2.5 percent polyacrylamide. A single dose is injected into the joint, where it integrates with the soft tissue lining and acts as a long-lasting cushion against the friction of worn cartilage.

Professor Lee uses Arthrosamid as a middle path: too late for physiotherapy and painkillers, but you are not ready for, or not yet a candidate for, hip replacement. It will not regrow cartilage. It buys you a meaningful, comfortable runway.

Suitability

Is Arthrosamid right for your hip?

Likely a good fit
  • Your hip arthritis pain is interfering with sleep, walking or your everyday life
  • You have tried physiotherapy, painkillers or steroid injections without lasting relief
  • You would prefer to avoid (or are not ready for) hip replacement surgery
  • You want a treatment that can be delivered locally without travelling to London
Not a good fit
  • Active infection in or near the hip
  • End-stage hip arthritis where bone is rubbing on bone and movement is severely limited
  • You are looking for a one-and-done permanent cure (Arthrosamid manages symptoms; it does not regrow cartilage)

The honest answer comes from a consultation with Professor Lee, not a tick-box.

Ultrasound-guided hip injection
What to expect

On the day, and after

  1. 1

    Pre-injection assessment

Professor Lee reviews your scans, listens to your story and confirms Arthrosamid is the right call. If a scan is needed, our open MRI is on site.

  2. 2

    The injection itself

A single, ultrasound-guided injection at our Grantham or Sleaford clinic. Around 30 minutes start to finish. You walk in and walk out.

  3. 3

    The first two weeks

Mild soreness or stiffness for a few days is normal. Avoid heavy load on the hip while the hydrogel settles. Most people are back to everyday activity quickly.

  4. 4

    Three to six months in

Pain relief typically builds over the first three months and is generally sustained from there. Effects in published data hold up at the two-year mark and beyond.

Cost and next step

£2,995 per injection

That covers the Arthrosamid hydrogel itself, the ultrasound-guided procedure with Professor Lee, and your local follow-up appointment.
