A scaffold for repair, not a cushion
ChondroFiller is a type-I collagen gel — the same protein your body uses to build cartilage. Injected into the joint, it forms a temporary scaffold that the body’s own cells can colonise and remodel into fibrocartilage-like tissue. The collagen itself dissolves; what it leaves behind is repair tissue where there was a defect.
It is, in Professor Lee’s framing, biology helped along — not a pharmacological trick, not a permanent implant. That makes it well suited to patients whose cartilage is damaged but not yet beyond repair.

Scan and assessment
Open MRI on site if you do not already have recent imaging. Professor Lee maps the cartilage damage and confirms ChondroFiller is the right tool.

The procedure
An ultrasound-guided injection at our Grantham or Sleaford clinic. Local anaesthetic. No general, no theatre, no overnight stay.

The repair window
Protected loading for the first 4-6 weeks while the scaffold integrates. We will brief you on what to do and what to avoid.

Three to six months in
New repair tissue builds gradually. Function and pain typically improve over this window. Follow-up imaging if clinically useful.
